“It can’t be all peace, joy, and pancakes” (Msgr. Georg Ratzinger).
I am Michelle Arnold, a staff apologist for Catholic Answers. This is my personal blog. I was raised in a Seventh-Day Adventist home, and I was baptized Catholic in 1996. You can read my conversion story online, here and here. I have been employed by Catholic Answers since 2000.
I have been blogging on and off since 2002, the dawn of the Blog Age. In that time, I have contributed to three blogs—a small personal blog you have never heard of; the personal blog of my colleague, Jimmy Akin; and the Catholic Answers Blog. (My CAB posts are available here.) I also micro-blog on my personal Facebook page.
Why start up a new blog then? A couple of reasons: One, I would like to write on subjects that may be outside the parameters of my apologetics work, and thus need to be published on a personal platform. And, two, I would like to create a personal archive of my apologetics essays for the Catholic Answers Blog and for other platforms where my work has appeared. So, in addition to new posts, you can expect to see work I have published elsewhere and am republishing here.
“Peace, Joy, Pancakes”: Benedict XVI once said, “The ways of the Lord are not comfortable, but we were not created for comfort, but for greatness, for good.” His brother, Msgr. Georg Ratzinger, made this same point in a more colorful fashion: “It can’t be all peace, joy, and pancakes.” Life as a Catholic is a journey; like all journeys, it includes conflict and peace, trial and joy. And, occasionally, pancakes.
